The turbulence and roller coaster rides that global stocks went through in August, perked me up as for the first time in a long while, I felt that opportunities were presenting themselves to build or pickup some quality companies and indexes on the cheap. August arrived and it marked a turning point where investors finally began to question whether it made any sense to be in stocks.  Despite the violent turns in the market, I still didn’t find very much to choose from. Investment Activity Review - July 2015

July was highlighted by some violent turns in global stock markets, led by China. It fed into a continued drop in commodity prices, which included copper. The combination of a surging US dollar along with continued evidence that the China economy was slowing down more dramatically than thought, took down the whole commodity complex. Like always when there is fear in the market, I tend to perk up and start sifting through the damage to find hopefully some nuggets. During July it was copper.

After the brief “correction” in October, the market basically pulled a Men In Black where it essentially looked at the pen and proceeded to forget the past and resumed its ascendency to record highs. I made a couple of moves on my portfolios to bank some profits and to open some new positions. This is despite my feelings that the stock market is still overpriced.

After the February blip in the markets as a result of Central Bank tapering leading to hemorrhaging in Emerging Markets, a funny thing happened. The market seemed to have forgotten all that and just continued on its upward trajectory. I decided to use the wave and bank some profits as well as take some pretty aggressive positions.
